After giving up 34 first-half points Friday, the Arlington boys basketball team's defense stepped up during the second and held Conestoga to 46 total.
The 56-46 home win pushed the Eagles' season record to 11-7.
Coach Tyler Spitser's squad trailed 16-12 after one period and 34-27 at halftime before outscoring the Cougars by 10 during the third period. In addition to AHS' defensive improvement during the quarter, the offense scored 15 with Dustin Kirk notching nine of his team-high 18 points. The junior knocked down three 3-pointers for the game, while Logan Kaup hit two in an eight-point effort.
The Eagles' Aiden Foreman, meanwhile, scored 17 points on eight field goals — including a dunk off of a power dribble in the lane — and a single free throw make. The standout post player scored two buckets during the fourth, while Colby Grefe, Kirk and Isaac Foust combined for seven made free throws down the stretch.
Conestoga fell to 7-10 in defeat despite 21 points by Lane Fox. No. 2 scored 16 first-half points, but just five after halftime.
AHS played a makeup game Monday and next plays tonight at Plattsmouth. The boys varsity game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
