The Arlington boys basketball team's late-game struggles continued Tuesday during the first round of the Nebraska Capitol Conference (NCC) Tournament in Valley.
For the fourth time in five games, the Eagles (6-9 overall) lost an overtime game. In this instance, it was to Douglas County West (12-4), 41-38.
AHS led 27-24 at the midway point of the fourth period, but saw the Falcons even the score when Brody Travis connected on a 3-pointer.
The Eagles even took a 31-29 lead, but couldn't maintain it as DC West extended the game.
In overtime, Arlington's Colby Grefe, Miles Chamberlain and Nick Smith combined for seven points to give their team a 38-36 advantage. Again, though, the Falcons hit a 3-pointer — this time by Parker Gaston — to take the lead for good.
The Eagles took two timeouts during the last 25 seconds of overtime, but couldn't get off a shot to try and force a second OT period.
Barrett Nielsen and Dustin Kirk led AHS with 10 points apiece, while Grefe finished with eight.
Travis, meanwhile, scored 15 for the victorious home squad.
Coach Tyler Spitser's Eagles next play 6 p.m. today against Syracuse. Arlington hosts the NCC Tournament consolation game as its team hopes to break a five-game losing streak.
