The Blair girls basketball team improved to 6-1 Saturday, picking up its sixth win of 14 or more points.
The Bears topped winless Omaha Gross 40-25 at home, overcoming a slow start to finish another game with bench players building varsity experience on the floor.
“The last 4 minutes in the second quarter we started picking up the energy and it just carried through halftime,” BHS sophomore Hayden Frink-Mathis said.
Coach Matt Aschoff's team led 10-6 after one period, 26-13 after two and by 17 points going into the final 8 minutes. Frink-Mathis and Joslyn Policky led the Bears in scoring, tallying nine apiece with their play in the lane. Both players absorbed contact consistently against the Cougars, who finished with 17 team fouls to Blair's five.
“Me and Joslyn were just being physical back and just making buckets,” Frink-Mathis said. “And we came out with the win.”
Senior Kaitlyn Johnson added seven points for the victors, Addie Sullivan had six and Marin Sather scored five with a 3-point make. The Bears next play at home 4:30 p.m. today against Hastings.
