AHS wrestling hosts youth fall camp

Kids hit mats before season

Arlington wrestling coach Doug Hart and his team hosted its first fall youth camp this week.
The young Eagles first met for lessons Tuesday at AHS.
“I thought it would be a good idea because these youth kids start their season kind of right around when the high school starts,” Hart explained.
Goals of the mat-work included skill refreshers for the experienced elementary school grapplers and the development of body control.
“And making sure we're having some fun, too, while we're doing it,” the coach said. “Just some of those essential things that help you be successful when it comes to wrestling.”
The camp may also benefit the coaches, Hart said.
“Gets me back into the swing of things,” he noted.
NSAA winter sports practices officially begin Nov. 14. That day will be the first official day of work for Hart, but also coach Madison Wakefield and the Eagles' first girls wrestling team.
Both coaches and Arlington wrestlers from both teams helped put on the camp Tuesday.
“Helps me knock off some rust,” Hart said before getting on the mat with the youngsters.
