Fremont swimming coach David Struble said Arlington senior Josh Iossi may have won the Tigers' most exciting race of a Dec. 15 dual at Millard South.
On a day when FHS swimmers competed in events they wouldn't normally excel in to test themselves, the Eagle on the Tiger team won the 500-yard freestyle race by just 0.3 seconds. He was neck-and-neck with his AquaPat competition, but touched the wall first.
Though Iossi's boys team fell to Millard South, 99-83, the Fremont girls picked up a 97-82 win.
“All the swimmers stepped up to the challenge and swam very well,” Struble said. “It ended up being a very close meet on the girls' and the boys' side.”
Iossi also teamed up with Arlington sophomore Cade Arnett, and the Tigers Gabe Christ and Devin Mark, to finish third in the 400 freestyle relay event.
Eagle Elisabeth Meyer, meanwhile, was apart of two victorious FHS relay teams. The freshman won the 200 medley with Grace Blick, Karsen Jesse and Kiera Spilinek in 2:09.69 before joining Charlotte Vech, Madelyn Buck and Lucy Dillon for a 400 free relay victory.
Meyer and former Arlington student Addie Schiemann finished third and fourth, respectively, in the individual 50-yard freestyle event. Meyer was fourth in the 500 freestyle as well.
The Tigers next compete Jan. 7 when they host Lincoln North Star at the Fremont Family YMCA.
