AHS, FCHS wrestlers compete in JV tourney

Wrestlers from Arlington and Fort Calhoun competed Monday during a junior varsity tournament at Oakland-Craig High School.
Among Washington County's top finishers were Fort Calhoun's Fred Altstadt and Aaron Welchert. The Pioneers pair earned second in each of their brackets.
Altstadt was the 145-pound runner-up, going 2-1 with a quarterfinals pin. He lost his first-place match by fall.
Welchert, meanwhile, was 3-1 at 195 pounds, picking up two wins by pin and another by 4-3 decision. His finals match reached the third period before he was pinned.
In addition, FCHS' Tyler DeMilt and Arlington's Cade Podany medaled in Oakland. Podany was fourth at 170 pounds with a 3-2 tournament record, while DeMilt went 4-2 at 138.
The Eagles' Stokely Lewis (two wins), Daniel Cook-Krivohlavek (one) and Jacob Beans (three) also picked up tournament victories, while Calhoun's Louis Diggins (two), Alex Schuler (two), Wesley Short (one) and Alex Gutierrez (one) did the same.
Both Arlington and the Pioneers were scheduled to compete Thursday in Yutan before Saturday tournaments. The Eagles host their home tournament at 9:30 a.m., while FCHS travels to Nebraska City for a 10 a.m. start.
