The Class B No. 1 Norris girls basketball team didn't take it easy against Blair even with two Bear starters out for Saturday's game.
The Titans built a 20-6 lead through one period and defeated coach Matt Aschoff's squad 62-38. The home loss dropped BHS to 3-1.
“(Norris is) a very, very well-rounded team and we knew that,” the Bears coach said. “If they're hitting 3s, they are so tough to beat.”
The Titans had a height advantage, but also knocked down four first-quarter 3s to push out front against BHS, which was without standouts Mya Larson and Avory French.
“Even if we don't switch screens, we just can't match up with their tall four and our tallest four,” Aschoff said. “We had to play zone.”
Against that defense, Norris' Brianna Stai finished with a game-high 24 points. Delaney White added 10, too.
Blair, meanwhile, was led by Makayla Baughman's 13 points. She scored 11 during the first half, including two on a contested, athletic layup to get the Bears on the scoreboard in the opening quarter.
Reese Beemer scored BHS' final bucket on a layup reminiscent of her game-winner during the junior varsity game. The Bears' JV squad topped the Titans, 34-33.

Bears top Vikings, win 4th game
Before their bout with No. 1, the BHS girls outscored Waverly 18-10 during the fourth period Friday night, earning a 38-28 road victory.
“We thought their focus for the two games this weekend has been really good,” Aschoff said Saturday. “We're playing some young kids and they're stepping up.”
The Bears led 20-18 going into the final 8 minutes, but opened that advantage up with two 3-pointers from Ella Ross and seven made foul shots. Ross finished with 14 total points, while freshman Leah Chance added eight.
The victory was BHS' first of the road schedule.
