7th- and 8th-graders start intramural hoops season

Udey, Pille coach Bears teams

Before the group of Blair seventh- and eighth-graders were able to start their intramural basketball season Friday, a few went to work.
They retrieved chairs from the Arbor Park Intermediate School locker room for the team benches, bleachers were pulled out and the scoreboard table was assembled and prepped.
From there, though, coaches Ross Udey and Grace Pille rallied the Bears.
“We haven't had a lot of practices,” Udey said. “It will be rough tonight.”
All the same, though, the hoopers will gain experience through the weekly schedule. The purple and white teams faced another last Friday, will again this Friday and are set to compete Nov. 18, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9, too.
Every game starts at 5 p.m. on the court at Arbor Park.
“I want them to have fun,” Udey said. “Just to work off some of that energy.”
The inexperienced middle school basketball players the coach called Blair's “C Team” continue to endear themselves with him.
“They're a great group,” Udey said. “You get to see them in a different light than you do at school.”
He also noted the probability of an upcoming travel game the boys hadn't been told about yet. It's an opportunity against an opposing team the Bears don't get in intramural ball each year.
