3 county softball players make NCC 1st team

9 AHS, FCHS athletes recognized overall

Nine Washington County softball players were recognized with the recent release of the All-Nebraska Capitol Conference (NCC) teams, including three first-teamers.
Arlington senior catcher Cadie Robinson was named to the first team, contributing a .500 batting average, 34 hits, 27 RBIs and two homers this fall. She ends her Eagles career a school record-holder in career fielding percentage (.988), career RBIs (108) and career doubles (40).
Fort Calhoun's Sam Brewer and Kaitlyn Welchert were first-team honorees, too. Brewer, a catcher, led the Pioneers with a .470 batting average this season. She had 31 hits, 21 RBIs and 11 extra-base hits.
Welchert, meanwhile, hit at a .424 average with team highs in RBIs — 29 — and homers — six.
Kiersten Taylor of AHS made the NCC second team as well. The senior finished her final campaign with a .387 average and 18 extra-base hits. She also went 9-7 in the pitching circle, striking out 69 batters across 79 innings.
The Eagles' Britt Nielsen and Hannah Stahlecker, meanwhile, were honorable mention recipients. Nielsen, a sophomore infielder, hit .456 and scored 23 runs, while Stahlecker, a senior, hit .344 with two homers.
The honorable mention list also included FCHS' Lucie Larsen, Anna Taylor and Kaylee Taylor. Larsen hit .328 and went 4-3 in the pitching circle with a 3.66 ERA. Anna Taylor, who hit .338, went 6-7 as a pitcher with 78 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings, too.
Kaylee Taylor, meanwhile, finished the year with a .379 average and 27 runs scored.
The Pioneers went 11-13 this fall, while Arlington finished 12-13. The Washington County teams went 1-1 in two meetings against each other.
