Green, Welchert and Lueders represent their schools

Sometimes there are exceptions to my rules.
Arlington senior Keelianne Green was the AHS and overall Washington County Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week last week. But, again, here she is this week after winning her second-straight state cross-country championship.
The Eagle is unbeaten in two seasons of high school cross-country, so I will not ignore that. She’s joined this week by a pair of county athletes who also earned their recognition.

Keelianne Green, Arlington cross-county: The two-time state champ won the Class C state title by more than 18 seconds Friday, earning the 5-kilometer win in 19:15.5. She’s probably over doing interviews at this point, so I’ll spare her this week.  Undoubtably, we will speak on the record again during the rest of her senior sports year though.

Ted Lueders, Blair cross-country: Blair’s best state cross-country finish in school history was a team effort, but this runner led the way. The Bear helped his Bears to third in Class B with a 22nd-place finish in 17:22.1.

Austin Welchert, Fort Calhoun football: The senior quarterback threw an interception on the Pioneers’ first possession against Boys Town, but didn’t back down in the victory, going 16-for-21 through the air for 225 yards and two scores. He also ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns before intercepting a pass late on defense.

Please share this entry in the Athlete of the Week series and check out my video interview with the overall winner here at enterprisepub.com/sports later this week.
