After more than a week between competitions, the Blair High School tennis team returned to action Thursday at Omaha Skutt.
The host Skyhawks won the dual, 9-0, though. BHS senior Alexandra Nilges played the closest match, falling 9-7 in No. 1 singles.
“She competed her butt off,” coach David Christensen said. “It was a tough, back-and-forth battle the whole way through, and a ball bounces a different way here or there and she would have won that.”
The senior and her doubles partner, Abi Lundberg, also put up a fight, falling 8-3.
Lundberg, meanwhile, lost her singles match 8-2 and Mallory Dreher fell 8-0 at No. 3 singles. Jenna Murch-Shafer played within 8-1 of her Skutt opposition, while Abi Rothlisberger fell 8-0.
At No. 6 singles, the Bears' Hayen Bosanek fell 8-3, too.
Additionally, Blair's Jazmyne Roach, Ahsley Behnk and Izabella Gaskill contributed in doubles play, but came up short.
The Bears were scheduled to compete in Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament play on Monday. They next compete 8:30 a.m. today, however, at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.
