Senior shoots a 79 for 5th

Blair High School golfer Bode Soukup shot an 18-hole 79 Thursday, leading coach Ross Udey's Bears at Wayne Country Club.
The senior claimed fifth overall, sinking birdies on a 318-yard par-4 hole and a par-5 483-yarder. He also concluded eight holes even, finishing six strokes behind individual medalist Brody Rogers of Tekamah-Herman.
The Bears earned 11th overall at the 15-team Wayne Blue Devil tournament, totaling 385 strokes. Degan Dresden finished 51st out of 72 golfers with 100 swings, while Tyler Lantry took 101. Rylan Blattert carded 105 more for BHS and Nolan Wolfe shot a 110.
Columbus Lakeview won the invite with 326 strokes, while Rogers' Tigers were second with 327.
Coach Udey's Blair squad was scheduled to play Indian Creek Golf Course on Monday in Elkhorn and next competes 9 a.m. today at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Lincoln.
