Brodersen, Kies, Tabor and Stonehocker earn individual awards

Zach Hennecke earned the Cornhusker Cup on Friday and Saturday in Doniphan.
The Norris sophomore shot 138 of the 150 clay targets he faced during the Cornhusker Trapshoot and won a shoot-off to claim the title.
Young Washington County marksmen and women were successful during the 53rd annual event, too, as more than 1,500 senior division shooters took part. Led by Kalvin Kies, Blair Youth Shooting Sports' Blair Gold lineup finished third during Friday's 16-yard shoot. Riley Brodersen earned a top-10 overall finish a day later, and Elijah Tabor and Arlington junior high shooter Brayden Stonehocker claimed awards, too.
Altogether, Brodersen went 134-for-150 across two days. The marksmen — who won his handicap distance in 2022 — was 69-for-75 during the 16-yard event and shot at a 65-for-75 clip from 22-23 during the handicap shoot.
Kies, meanwhile, went 122-for-150 during the weekend. The BYSS shooter earned 12th during the 16-yard event, hitting 72 targets — just two less than first-place Mason Hettler of Grand Island Northwest.
Kies' Blair Gold team hit 337 targets as a whole. It was just eight behind Papillion-La Vista South and nine behind first-place Northwest.
Triston Clausen was 69-for-75 for the Gold squad, while Tyler Hume hit 65 targets. Harry Kies added 62 downed clay pigeons, too.
Tabor's 71-for-75 effort was good for 19th as an individual in the 16-yard event as well. He led the Blair Silver lineup Friday before Gavin Baker edged him in the overall standings, 115-113.
Anissa Hill, meanwhile, led BYSS' female lineup at the state shoot with a 111-for-150 showing.
Arlington's top senior division shooter was Cade Arnett, who went 127-for-150 in Doniphan. Jacob Vanek, a BYSS team member from Arlington, took out 117 targets and Wyatt Flesner hit 113. Kaleb Dowling and Shane Japp shot more than 110, too, taking out 113 and 112, respectively.
Morgan Shaner of Fort Calhoun, meanwhile, took his shotgun and went 125-for-150. He was his hometown's top finisher ahead of William Bogar (117) and Ava Bittner (69).
BYSS' Wyatt Blackford and Jager Leichleiter represented Tekamah-Herman at the Cornhusker Trapshoot and finished with 113 and 107 targets, respectively, too.

Stonehocker leads county in Junior shoot
According to a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission release, 947 shooters took part in Thursday's junior high competition with Stonehocker taking 10th.
The Arlington marksman shot 96 of the 100 clay targets he aimed at, claiming a place in the standings between Isaac Bruna of Beatrice and Southside 4-H's Barrett Smith. He has only shot since the sixth grade, and missed time late in the season after an appendectomy, but performed at a top-10 level in Doniphan.
Stonehocker led the way, while Blair's Colton Nixon went 94-for-100 with his shotgun. Tregan Baker next represented Blair with 89 downed targets, while Landry Benoit of Fort Calhoun shot 88.
Arlington's Clayton Coe (87) and Cyris Sass (81), and Blair's Jackson Kempcke (82) and Johnny Henton (82) hit more than 80 percent of the clay targets they fired at, too.
Cohen Harre of Exeter-Milligan, meanwhile, won a shoot-off with Norris' Avery Davis to win the Cornhusker Trapshoot's junior high championship. Both marksmen went 98-for-100 before the tiebreaker.
