Like a broken record, Ethan Baessler broke another school record Tuesday during the Eastern Midlands Conference Championships at Waverly High School.
The junior Blair sprinter left a third meet this season with a new mark as the Bears earned fifth in the boys' standings and sixth in the girls. The Waverly boys and Norris girls claimed first-place conference titles.
Baessler, who also owns BHS' best 200-meter dash time, won the 100 dash in 10.52 seconds. It was his second time earning a new 100 school record this spring, but his first time breaking the EMC meet mark.
Baessler and senior Nolan Slominski were the lone Bears to earn EMC titles Tuesday. While the former won a sprint, the latter won his gold medal in a middle-distance race.
Slominski won the 800-meter run in 1:57.63. His teammate, Zac Keeling, was sixth.
Blair's Greta Galbraith, Shelton Anderson and Dawson Fricke added conference runner-up finishes for coach Bryan Soukup's team. Galbraith was second in the pole vault, clearing a bar set at 10 feet, while Anderson covered 41-6 for a new person record in the triple jump.
Fricke, meanwhile, earned second in the 3,200 run with a time of 10:10.17.
The Bears' 400-meter relay team — Keeling, Baessler, Colin McCabe and Ben Holcomb, according to Black Squirrel Timing — earned silver in 44.67 seconds, too.
Additionally, Reese Beemer earned individual thirds in the 100 and 200 dashes. Blair's Caleb Funk (400 dash), Seagan Packett-Trisdale (discus), Braden McGill (shot put), Emma Ammon (100 hurdles) and Schuyler Roewert (300 hurdles) added fourth-place efforts.
BHS next competes for state qualifications Tuesday during the Class B District 2 Meet at Elkhorn High School. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m. before running events at 2 p.m.
The Bears' Unified team will compete in field events at 9 a.m. before running events at 11:45.
