A 2-year-old child is safe after a neighbor reported seeing the boy dangling from a two-story apartment building window Wednesday night.

Blair police and Blair Fire and Rescue responded to the 700 block of North 18th Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Capt. Aaron Barrow said the child's mother, identified as Ashley Sons, 31, had fallen asleep when the child opened the window. Sons was notified by a neighbor and was able to pull the child back into the apartment before rescue personnel responded.

Sons was ticketed for child neglect, Barrow said. The Department of Health and Human Services also responded.

Blair Fire Chief Joe Leonard said the child was checked by rescue squad members and was found to be OK.

Leonard said the incident can serve as a reminder to parents to check windows and have properly placed screens.

“If you have small children, make sure windows are secured so they can't open them,” he added.
