Kenneth V. Halsey, 41, is charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
According to the arrest affidavits, Blair police, assisted by Washington County sheriff's deputies members of the III-Corps Drug Task Force and a state deputy, served a search warrant at 1943 Washington St. at approximately 7:40 a.m. Jan. 8.
Officers were searching for red plastic shipping crates belonging to Casey's General Store in Blair, green shipping crates belonging to Ace Hardware in Blair and towels, cups and various toiletries belonging to Rodeway Inn in Blair, as well as any other items or contraband.
All items from the three businesses were believed to be stolen.
When officers searched the home, they found 12 Ace Hardware shipping crates; three Casey's shipping crates; a United States Postal Service mail crate; a Shopko shipping crate; 48 “Choice Hotels EnduraWeave” brand towels; nine bed sheets; 27 pillow cases consistent with hotel bedding and one comforter, all consistent with hotel bedding; and a shower curtain consistent with hotel amenities.
The total estimated value of the recovered items is $2,563.
During the search, officers also found a purse belonging to Derevjagin, which contained a small bag of white crystal-like substance, a used syringe and a marijuana pipe. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.
In the garage, officers found three combat-style knives and a blue money bag, which contained several loose pills. The pills were identified as amphetamine, a stimulant; alprazolam and lorazepam, both sedatives.
According to an affidavit for the search warrant, Derevjagin worked as a housekeeper at Rodeway Inn and would have had unrestricted access to towels, toiletries and other supplies, including cups.
Derevjagin had also recently been fired from Casey's after she was allegedly caught on video stealing lottery tickets. She is awaiting trial on those charges.
A Blair detective confirmed with both Casey's and Ace Hardware that shipping crates had been stolen. The hotel owner positively identified a towel found in Derevjagin's home as having come from the hotel.
