Arbor Park Intermediate School was placed on lockout for nearly 30 minutes Thursday after Blair police received a call about someone possibly armed and distraught nearby.
Capt. Aaron Barrow said officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North 18th Avenue at for a person possibly distraught and armed with a knife.
Officers immediately contacted the school district, which was within a block from the possible incident, as a precaution.
Supt. Randy Gilson said the school was placed in a lockout at 1:55 p.m. A lockout means classes carry on as usual. However, no students are allowed outside and the school is extra cautious about who it allows in.
Children who were outside for recess were immediately brought in.
“It was enough of a concern that I made the decision to go in a lockout,” Gilson said.
Barrow said officers located and interviewed the individual, who was not armed. The situation did not require any further action from police.
The lockout was lifted at 2:23 p.m.
