The Blair Rotary Student of the Month for October is Alex Swenson.

Swenson was awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment and a $300 scholarship at a recent Blair Rotary Club meeting.

  Swenson has been active in school and community functions. Some of those achievements include: marching band, Tri-M Music Honor Society, jazz band, orchestra pit for the musical, Spanish Club, Drama Club, Blair Area Band and National Honor Society.

  Swenson's leadership roles include line leader for three years, helped lead church activities, band student mentor, AEP Mentor, teacher's assistant, Education Program for 2014 and vice president of Tri-M Music Society.

  Swenson helped clean out the Washington County Historical Museum, helped at the recycling center, Band Buddies, helped with the Blair Otte Middle School Honor Band and helped clean up after basketball games.

  Among the honors and awards received by Swenson: Named most outstanding freshman band student, outstanding second-year Spanish student, Nebraska All-State Band for two years, Wesleyan Honor Band for two years, Hastings Honor Band, six consecutive semesters on honor roll, Top 5 percent of his Senior Class, scored a 5 on the AP U.S. history exam and scored 34 on the ACT.

He is the son of Roger and Kristin Swenson.
