Starting in 1949, Circle 2 of the United Methodist Church in Herman started an annual Thanksgiving bake sale.
In 1952, the church group began providing turkey sandwiches along with baked goods and it wasn’t long before the annual Thanksgiving event turned into a full turkey dinner hosted by the entire church body.
This year, the Herman Community Church chose to donate its proceeds to the Hearts for Herman park project.
"This project is a wonderful community program which will provide Herman and the surrounding community with new and improved facilities," Rob Andrew said.
For more information on the project, call Carol Petersen, 402-426-5286 or 402-456-7353.
Village officials are hoping to move forward with the construction of a new concession stand/restroom building this fall, thanks to donations from the Hearts for Herman fund and a grant from the Papio-Missouri Natural Resources District.
