The following items were discussed at the Blair City Council meeting Tuesday:

• The council approved a bid of $19,800 from Schemmer Associates of Omaha to design the paving and storm sewer project for Sheridan Street from First Street to Third Avenue. Advertising for construction bids will begin soon, and construction is expected to start in the spring.

Schemmer, which submitted the lowest bid for the project, also worked on the Highway 75 and Blair trail projects.

• Dog and cat license fees will increase from $15 to $16 per unaltered pet and $10 to $11 per altered pet.

• The council approved the purchase of a new Chevy Impala for the Blair Police Department. The police-package vehicle will cost $23,530. Bids were also received for a Ford Police Interceptor sedan, Dodge Charger, Ford Police Utility Vehicle, Chevy Caprice and Ford Expedition, all which were priced higher than the Impala.

• The second regularly-scheduled meeting of the month, on Dec. 24, will not be held because it falls on Christmas Eve. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 14.
