Safe Routes to School

The City of Blair plans to apply for a grant to construct a sidewalk from the Longview Trailer Court, past the Blair Marina and over U.S. Highway 30 to Blaine Street.

The City of Blair is applying for a Nebraska Department of Roads Safe Routes to School project grant to construct a sidewalk from the Longview Trailer Court along Marina Drive, across U.S. Highway 30 to the Lincoln Trail at Blaine Street.

Students and recreational trail users will be able to connect with amenities like parks, schools, the former Dana College campus, downtown Blair, governmental facilities and commercial and industrial employment centers.

The estimated engineering cost is $231,878; the city is requesting $185,502 in federal funds. The city would also seek funds from the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District.

On Oct. 27, the Blair City Council unanimously approved applying for the grant; council member Marty Shepard, Ward 4, absent.
