A Blair woman who stabbed her brother during an argument over money was sentenced to probation Tuesday in Washington County District Court.
Jodi A. Hinton, 19, pleaded no contest Oct. 31 to the amended charge of attempted second-degree assault, a Class IIIA felony.
Judge John E. Samson sentenced Hinton to three years probation.
Hinton declined to comment prior to sentencing.
Hinton's attorney, Desirae Solomon of Omaha, said the incident occurred when Hinton didn't have access to medication due to a lack of insurance. She asked that the probation include mental health care.
“I agree with both counsel that there are mental health components in this crime that need to be addressed,” Samson said.
Hinton was arrested in February after officers were called to the 2200 block of Davis Drive for a physical disturbance in progress.
Police found Andy Hinton with a stab wound to his upper-left side of his back. Andy told offers that his sister, Jodi, became upset at another woman in the house when she refused to give her $5 to purchase a sandwich.
Andy had argued with Jodi about her behavior prior to the stabbing.
