How do you feel about the City of Omaha's decision to charge an additional 2.5% tax on dining, drinking and catering?
Please select one:
Great idea! A tax they can enforce!
So THAT''S why they allowed bars to stay open until 2 p.m.
I understand why they're doing it but I don't like it.
Just another reason not to go to Omaha.
Thank goodness there's no tax on groceries.
Does this mean my tip has to be larger too?

Two men were arrested Thursday, July 22, for their alleged involvement in the severe beating of a Fort Calhoun woman July 18.

Omaha Police arrested Aaron M. Sheperd, 19, and Samuel M. Irvin, 22, both of Omaha, for their connection to the assault of Chrissy Schroeder, 19. Schroeder was discovered badly beaten in a pool of blood near the area of 40th and Grebe Streets in Omaha in the early morning hours of July 18.

Sheperd was charged with attempted murder, first-degree sexual assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Irvin was charged with being an accessory to a felony.

Both are currently being held in the Douglas County Jail.

According to Omaha Police, Schroeder met Irvin at a party Saturday night. The two left the party and met with Sheperd at a different location. The two men then drove Schroeder to the area of 40th and Grebe Streets, where she was assaulted.

Schroeder's condition continues to improve, and a family member said she was walking and reading cards sent to her by friends and family.
