The 14th annual Washington County Pheasants Forever Mentored Youth Hunt was Saturday north of Blair.

Sixteen area kids took part in a full day of safety lessons, shooting and hunting. The youth found out how to locate downed birds without a dog, how to clean and transport their birds, how to properly clean guns and how to ask permission to hunt.

This was the first year that all 16 youths were successful in shooting a pheasant in their field hunt. All of them also received a hunting vest and hats donated from Pheasant Forever, Nebraska Game and Parks and Boyt Harness.

"The hunt is successful because of the time donated by our 54 volunteers and the use of Rod, Curt Jensen and Rodney Madsen‘s fields," Sharon Rion said.

The Pheasants Forever Washington County Chapter Youth Mentor Chair is Bob Rion. Blair Youth Shooting Sports helped with the event as did several volunteer mentors.
