The Lyons Broncos had a very good season this summer as they finished the season undefeated. Their highly potent offense has scored a lot of points this season. They came into the league tournament as the #1 seed with home advantage throughout the tournament. It is also Lyons’ year to host the finals so they are home all the way.

Round #2 

vs. Stanton

Stanton came out and threatened in the top of the 1st inning as they loaded the bases with two outs, but their 6th batter of the inning hit back to the pitcher, Will Gatzemeyer who threw the runner out coming into home for the 3rd out.

Lyons came out like gangbusters leading off with a double by Lucas Vogt, a triple by Devin Heggge, singles by Arizona Riecken, Will Gatzemeyer, Darwin Snyder and Seth Totten and Brayden Anderson reaching base on an error. When the opening inning’s smoke cleared Lyons highly potent offense led 6-0.

Stanton was able score a run in the 2nd inning with a lead off walk that eventually scored on a passed ball.

The bottom of the inning Lyons went to work again. Vogt and Hegge had one-out singles. Riecken and Snyder followed with triples and Seth Totten got his second single of the game and at the end of two innings of play Lyons led 10-1.

They added three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with walks awarded to Nick Tolle and Vogt and Devin Hegge following with a single and Riecken with a base cleaing triple. They added one more run in the 4th inning with Snyder reaching on an error, stealing 2nd and 3rd base and took home on a passed ball. The game ended in five innings via 10-run rule, 14-1.

Lucas Vogt went 2 for 2 with a double and single and scored 3 times; Devin Hegge went 3 for 3 including a triple, scored 3 times and had 2 RBI’s; Arizona Riecken went 3 for 3 with a single and 2 triples, scored twice and had 4 RBI’s; Gatzemeyer had an RBI; Darwin Snyder went 2 for 3 including a triple, scored 3 times; Seth Totten went 2 for 2, scored once and had 2 RBI’s; Brayden Anderson scored once and had an RBI; and Nick Tolle scored once.

Gatzemeyer went the distance allowing one run on 2 hits, struck out 8 and had 7 walks and a hit batter. The team had no errors.

Round 3

vs Logan View Gold

Lyons          1-0-4-3-x       8     

Lyons rolled through the Logan View Gold taking the game by a final score of 8-2.

The Lyons hitters were Seth Totten with 2 singles, Lucas Vogt with 2 singles, Devin Hegge had a single, Will Gatzemeyer had a single, Darwin Snyder had a single, Dylan Beutler had a single and Derek Peterson had a single.

Arizona Riecken was the starting pitcher and went 3 innings allowing one run on one hit, struck out 6. Lucas Vogt relieved him and went 3 innings allowing one run on no hits and had 5 strikeouts.

That put them in the semi-finals against Howells-Dodge.

Round 4 

vs. Howells-Dodge

The Lyons Broncos played a tough game with Howells-Dodge in the semi-finals though they were in control from the beginning. It turned out to be a low scoring match.

Lyons scored early and led all the way going into the final inning with a 4-0 lead. Lyons mustered only 3 hits in the process of scoring 4 runs. Lucas Vogt went 1 for 3 and scored once, Arizona Riecken reaching base twice on errors and scored twice; Darwin Snyder went 1 for 1 and was hit by the pitcher and score once; and Brayden Anderson went 1 for 2.

Pitching Arizona Riecken started and went two innings allowing no runs on not hits, struck out 3 and had 2 walks. Lucas Vogt relieved in the 3rd inning and went the rest of the way allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, struck out 6 and had no walks.

They will be playing the finals at 8:00 on Tuesday night against the #2 seed Wayne White in Lyons.
