Pancakes, waffles, beefburgers and pie, chicken and biscuits and plenty of soup, Puffins, popcorn, fish fry’s - have you had your fill? I certainly hope not.
I am not sure if it is simply because of the size of our community or because we truly do more fundraising than anyone else, we certainly do fundraise. Since local fundraising is typically centered around food I sure don’t mind.
Shannon and I went for soup at the hospital in support of their scholarship program for local graduates. It was a perfect lunch on a cold rainy Tuesday afternoon.
All of these fundraisers tell me two things. First, fundraising works in a community such as ours. The reason it works, is because people support the entities behind the fundraising. And that is the second thing I have come to realize through these fundraisers - Oakland is a very supportive community.
Most people realize how fortunate we are to have our school, our hospital, our local Fire and Rescue, Golden Oaks, Oakland Heights, scouting programs and so much more right here in our own community. Not everyone in rural Nebraska can say that.
I was left with the small task of writing a thank you from the Oakland Fire and Rescue for the support shown during their recent beef burger feed. How do you say thanks to a community like Oakland in a couple of sentences? It’s difficult.
I guess the best way we can say thanks is to continue to support one another and the organizations we represent. We do that, Oakland will continue to be a great place to raise a family.
