Veda L. Hansen, 78 years, of Tekamah, NE

Veda Louise (Rice) Hansen was born Dec. 28, 1934, at home in Tekamah, NE, to Reno and Gladys (Williamson) Rice. She passed away Sun., Aug. 11, 2013, at the age of 78 years at her home in Tekamah surrounded by her loving family.

Veda was baptized and confirmed at First Baptist Church in Tekamah. She was the first Honored Queen of Job’s Daughter in 1951 of the Tekamah Bethel. Veda graduated from Tekamah High School in 1952. She attended Wayne State College in the teaching program and then taught for two years at Morning Side District #14 in rural Tekamah.

On Nov. 12, 1955, Veda married Vern Hansen. To this union three children were born: Victoria, Van and Valerie. They resided on a farm and feedlot south of Tekamah and in 1987 moved into Tekamah.

Veda attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, where she taught Sunday School and was a work group chairman for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Orville Hansen.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Vern of Tekamah; daughter, Victoria (Scott) Olson of Minden, NE, son, Van (Linda) Hansen of Herman, NE, daughter, Valerie (Scott) Lindstrom of Oakland, NE; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Janet (Howard) Petersen of Bancroft, NE; brother-in-law, Gene (Linda) Hansen of Tekamah; sister-in-law, Virginia Hansen of Tekamah; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial service will be Wed., Aug. 14, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah, Rev. Travis Borkosky officiating. The organist will Patty Gammel and special music will be provided by Veda’s granddaughters.

The honorary bearers will be Jason Olson, Candice Vinton, Crystal Klug, Curtis Olson, Heath Hansen, Britney Hansen, Sydney Hansen, Justine Hansen, Travis Lindstrom, Jana Lindstrom, and Mitchell Lindstrom.

Burial will be at the Tekamah Cemetery.
